Woven and knitted styles carry shape differently. Blouses drape and gather where a shirt would hold a straight placket, and dress shirts keep a fused collar and buttoned cuff; sweaters and cardigans build warmth into the stitch itself, from fine ribs to heavy cables, while hoodies and sweatshirts do it with looped-back cotton and brushed fleece. What is the difference between a blouse and a shirt?

A shirt is built on menswear lines, with a straight front placket, a stand collar, a yoke across the back and buttoned cuffs, and it holds its shape from the cloth. A blouse borrows the same opening but softens everything around it: fuller sleeves, gathers at the shoulder or cuff, ties, ruffles or a collarless neckline, usually in a fluid fabric such as crepe, georgette or silk. In practice a shirt tucks crisply and a blouse falls.

Why does a bodysuit pull at the shoulders, and how should it be sized?

Bodysuits are sized on torso length as much as chest, so pulling at the shoulder usually means the rise is short rather than the bust tight. Measure from the shoulder point, down through the crotch and back up to the same shoulder, then compare that girth against the brand's torso measurement instead of the bust alone. Longer torsos should size up and take in the bust if needed. Snap gussets allow a little more travel than hook-and-eye rows.
