Women's Coats

A coat is drafted around the weather it has to meet, and its length, weight and lining all follow from that. Overcoats hold the tailored end of the range, cut long over a jacket in wool and wool blends, single-breasted for a cleaner front or double-breasted for overlap and warmth. Trench coats keep that long line but add the working details, storm flap, belted waist, gun patch and back yoke, in cotton gabardine that sheds a shower rather than a downpour.

Harder weather asks for more. Raincoats use coated and laminated shells with sealed seams, while parkas are insulated through the body, hooded, and cut long enough to cover the hip. At the opposite extreme sit kimonos and wraps, closed by a tie or by nothing at all, working as a layer rather than a shield. Linings run from plain twill through quilted and detachable insulation to pile.

Women's Coats

What is the difference between a trench coat and a raincoat?

A trench is defined by its shape and details: a belted waist, storm flap across the shoulder, epaulettes, a back yoke and usually a double-breasted front, traditionally in tightly woven cotton gabardine that resists light rain without being sealed. A raincoat is defined by performance instead, using a coated, laminated or waxed shell, often with taped seams and a hood, to keep out sustained rain. A trench can serve as one, but most are worn as outerwear first.

How do I size a coat to wear over a jacket?

Measure your chest over the thickest layer you intend to wear underneath, arms down and the tape level beneath the armpits. Compare that against the coat's flat chest measurement doubled, and look for roughly 10 to 15cm more than your body figure on a tailored overcoat, more again on a parka. Sleeve length matters just as much: the coat cuff should cover the jacket cuff by about 2cm, or the layer beneath shows at the wrist.

Are DIHSAN's coats authentic?

Yes. Every piece DIHSAN sells is the brand's own — genuine designer product, with the maker's hardware, stamping and markings intact. Nothing is a reproduction or a licensed imitation.

Will I be charged duties on a DIHSAN coat order?

No. Duties are included on every DIHSAN order, and US orders include taxes as well.
