Denier decides the look before colour or pattern do. The number is the weight of the yarn, and it sets how much leg shows through: 10 to 20 denier reads as a barely-there veil, 30 to 50 gives soft colour with the skin still faintly visible, 60 to 100 blocks light entirely, and anything heavier behaves like a thin legging and holds real warmth.
\nTexture and structure take over from there. Fishnets run from fine micro-mesh to wide open lattice, while ribbed and cable knits, lace panels, back seams and jacquard motifs work pattern into the leg itself. The cut varies too: full pantyhose with control-top or shaping waistbands, hold-ups that stay put on silicone bands, separate stockings, and footless styles that finish at the ankle. Nylon-elastane sheers, cotton-blend knits and wool blends finish matte or lightly glossed, with reinforced toes and gussets where the strain sits.
