WOMEN'S
Prada
Prada womenswear is built on a kind of deliberate plainness that only reads as luxury on second look. Shapes are narrow and slightly severe — a straight skirt, a nylon blouson, a fine-gauge cardigan buttoned to the throat — and the interest is loaded into fabric and finish instead of cut: dry gabardine, matte technical nylon, fine wool, and knits carrying a triangle plaque at the hip or the chest.
The house is equally known for the note that breaks the discipline. A pleat lands where the silhouette is otherwise flat, a collar arrives in a contrasting colour, a bag or belt introduces Saffiano's cross-hatch grain against smooth wool. Neutrals do most of the work, and when a saturated shade does appear it is used once and used decisively.
