Chain length is measured end to end including the clasp. On most men an 18in or 45cm chain closes at the base of the neck, 20in or 50cm rests on the collarbone, 22in or 55cm sits just below it and reads well in an open collar, and 24in or 60cm falls to the middle of the breastbone, low enough to wear over a shirt. Add two inches, or 5cm, if your neck measures above 42cm.
