Support is engineered, not implied, and how a piece delivers it decides the fit. Underwired bras anchor the bust with a wire that follows its root, while soft-cup and bralette styles rely on the band, the seams and the fabric instead. Cut changes coverage from there: full-cup and balconette shapes lift differently, plunge styles drop the centre gore for open necklines, and triangles keep structure to a minimum.

Below the waist the logic runs on coverage alone. Briefs and high-waisted cuts cover hip and stomach, bikini shapes sit on the hip, and thongs remove the back panel to keep the line clean under close clothing. Fabrics move between smooth microfibre that disappears under a knit, cotton jersey for daily wear and lace or mesh where the piece is meant to be seen, and flat, bonded edges do the invisible work.
