The taper of the leg does most of the work, and whether the two halves are bought together does the rest. Bottoms carry the range on their own: joggers drawn in at the ankle with a ribbed cuff, straight and open-hem trousers that fall clean over a trainer, and wide or flared cuts that read closer to a trouser than to sportswear. Cotton loopback and brushed fleece give the softer, heavier hand, while technical polyester and nylon stay smooth, light and quick-drying, often with a woven stripe down the side seam.
