The pebbles. A classic Gommino sits on bare rubber studs, which grip a pedal and flex with the foot but sit thin underfoot and wear down on rough ground. The City Gommino keeps the same hand-stitched upper and moccasin shape but sets it on a thicker moulded rubber sole, so it takes pavement and distance far better. If the shoes are mainly for driving, travel and the office, the classic is the one; if they are going to walk all day, the City version is built for it.

They are built on Italian lasts, so they generally run true to size in length but sit narrower through the forefoot than an equivalent English or American shoe. Width is usually what decides the size rather than length, and the moccasin styles are meant to sit close to the foot without pinching across the joint. If you are between sizes or have a high instep, the wider fit is the safer choice, and a cobbler can ease a snug pair a little across the ball if it is only just tight.
