On the French scale, EU 40 is a US 8 and a UK 12, and the same body measurement is numbered IT 44 in Italy. German and Northern European labels number differently, and there a US 8 reads as EU 38. Designer sizing also tends to run about one size smaller than mainstream high-street sizing, so the bust, waist and hip figures on each product page settle the question more reliably than the label number does.
