Men's Flats

A shoe with no lace has to hold the foot by shape alone, and each style here answers that differently. Loafers do it with a moulded topline and a vamp that grips across the instep, whether that vamp carries a penny strap, a metal bit or a plain apron seam. Slippers keep the same slip-on line but soften it, cut in velvet or suede on a flat sole and often with an embroidered or appliqued front. Driving styles go furthest, wrapping a soft, unstructured upper around a sole studded with rubber pebbles that run up the heel.

Calf and suede uppers dominate, with woven leather, velvet and canvas appearing where a shoe is meant to be lighter or dressier. Construction is worth reading: a Blake or cemented sole keeps the shoe flexible and close to the ground, a leather sole dresses it up, and a stitched apron across the toe points to hand work.

Men's Flats

How should a loafer fit?

A loafer has no laces to take up slack, so the topline sets the fit. It should hold the instep without pinching, with about a centimetre of room in front of the longest toe. A little heel slip when new is normal in an unlined shoe, as the leather relaxes and moulds with wear. Because most loafers are cut on a longer, sleeker last, many men take half a size down from their sneaker size.

What is the difference between a penny loafer, a bit loafer and a driving shoe?

The vamp tells you. A penny loafer carries a leather saddle strap with a cut-out slot across the top of the foot. A bit loafer replaces that strap with a metal snaffle, which dresses the shoe up. A driving shoe is not really a loafer at all: it has an unstructured upper and rubber pebbles set into a flexible sole that wraps up the back of the heel, built for a pedal rather than a pavement.

Are DIHSAN's flat shoes authentic?

Yes. Every piece DIHSAN sells is the brand's own — genuine designer product, with the maker's hardware, stamping and markings intact. Nothing is a reproduction or a licensed imitation.

Will I be charged duties on a DIHSAN flat shoe order?

No. Duties are included on every DIHSAN order, and US orders include taxes as well.

Can I return a flat shoe purchase at DIHSAN?

Yes. Eligible flat shoes can go back within 14 days of the ship date, for store credit rather than cash, and shipping charges are non-refundable. Items discounted 70% or more — plus swimwear, intimates, and limited-release styles at any discount — are final sale.
