Heel height decides a shoe long before the colour of the leather does. Boots repeat that scale over a longer shaft, from ankle and Chelsea shapes through mid-calf, knee-high and over-the-knee, flat-soled or set on a heel. Uppers run to smooth calf, suede, patent and woven leather, with hardware kept to buckles, straps and slim ankle chains. Soles are leather where a shoe is dressed and rubber or lugged where grip has to matter more.

How do European shoe sizes convert to US women's sizes?

European sizes run about 30 numbers above US women's: EU 36 is a US 6, EU 37 a 6.5 to 7, EU 38 a 7.5 to 8, EU 39 an 8.5 to 9 and EU 40 a 9.5 to 10. Italian houses often cut narrow and half a size small. The dependable check is foot length: stand on paper, mark the heel and longest toe, measure in centimetres, add about 0.5 cm and match that to the chart.

Which heel height stays comfortable for a full day?

Heel height is measured up the back of the heel from the sole. Kitten heels sit around 3 to 5 cm, mid heels 6 to 7 cm, and high heels from 8 cm upward. Two things matter as much as the number. A block or column heel spreads weight over a far wider footprint than a stiletto, and a platform under the toe lifts the front of the foot, so a 10 cm heel set over a 3 cm platform leaves a drop of 7 cm and walks much like a 7 cm pump.
