What is intrecciato?

It is the woven leather the house is known for. Hide is cut into narrow, even strips, treated, then interlaced by hand or over a frame into a panel that behaves like a fabric: it flexes, drapes and holds its shape without a stiff backing. Because the weaving is done strip by strip, a single bag absorbs hours of hand work, which is where a great deal of its value sits. The weave appears at several scales, from fine and dense to broad and sculptural.

How should woven leather be cleaned and stored?

Gently, and in the direction of the weave. Wipe with a soft, barely damp cloth so that grime travels along the channels instead of being pushed deeper in, and use a cotton swab or a soft brush where the strips cross. Test anything stronger on a hidden section first and wait a day before going further. Store the piece lightly stuffed to keep its shape, in a dust bag, away from sunlight and damp.
