Women's Pants

Rise and leg line together decide how a pair of women's pants reads, and they are worth settling before anything else. Leggings and skinny pants stay against the leg the whole way down, while straight cut pairs hold a single width from hip to hem. Cropped styles stop the leg short above the ankle to show it. Wide leg, bootcut and flared pants all open out instead, the last two only below the knee.

What is the difference between high-rise, mid-rise and low-rise?

Rise is measured from the crotch seam straight up to the top of the waistband at the front. On women's pants, low-rise runs about 18-21 cm, mid-rise about 22-25 cm, and high-rise 26 cm and above, sitting at or just under the natural waist. A high rise lengthens the leg visually and stays put when you sit down, while a low rise shows more torso and generally wants a shorter or closer top above it.

How do I stop denim stretching out at the waist through the day?

Read the fabric content first. Denim with 1-2 percent elastane holds its shape and recovers well. At 3 percent and above it gives noticeably, so buy it snug and expect 2-3 cm of growth at the waist by evening. Rigid cotton denim stretches too, but temporarily rather than permanently: the cotton relaxes as you wear it, and a warm wash with a line dry brings most of it back. Sizing rigid denim to feel tight when new is normal, not a mistake.
