Heavier jersey and fleece take a few wears to soften, then hold their shape far longer than lightweight cotton: the shoulder seam stays where it was sewn and the hem does not curl. Wash cold and inside out, and dry low or flat, since heat is what shrinks a heavy knit unevenly. Expect a small amount of shrinkage on the first wash and very little after that.
