The point of it is recovery as much as give: the fabric feels soft and yields when you move, then returns to shape instead of bagging at the knee and the seat over a day's wear. It is used across a wide part of the range, in both women's and men's jeans, and it is why a pair can be cut close without becoming uncomfortable to sit down in.

The denim sits in three broad fabric families. High-stretch fabrics, Transcend among them, carry the most give and the most recovery, and they are the ones that feel soft straight off the hanger. Comfort-stretch sits in the middle, with enough movement for a close cut but more of a traditional denim hand. Rigid has little or no stretch, so it holds a crisp shape and moulds to you slowly instead. Choose stretch if you want a jean that feels broken in immediately, rigid if you would rather it earned its shape.
