What belt width works with tailoring rather than jeans?

Width is what separates a dress belt from a casual one. A 3 to 3.5 cm strap with a slim polished buckle sits neatly in suit trouser loops and disappears under a jacket. Around 3.5 to 4 cm suits chinos, and 4 cm or wider is built for denim and heavier loops. Check the loop width first, because a wide strap will not pass through dress trousers. Match the leather tone to your shoes rather than to the buckle.

What tie width and length should I be looking for?

Most current ties are cut between 7 and 9 cm at the widest point of the blade, and the usual guide is to echo the lapel: a 7 cm blade under a narrow lapel, 8 to 8.5 cm for the majority of jackets, and 9 cm with a wide peak lapel. Standard length runs 145 to 152 cm, which ties a four-in-hand or half Windsor and finishes at the belt. Taller wearers should look for 155 cm or more.
