MEN'S AND WOMEN'S
Adidas Originals
Adidas Originals is where the German company keeps its own back catalogue in circulation. It takes shoes that were built as equipment, for tennis courts, indoor courts and running tracks, and puts them back into production largely unchanged, on the reasoning that a shape which worked the first time does not need improving. The Trefoil that marks them was the company's main logo until 1997 and has been reserved for heritage product ever since.
What that produces is two quite different kinds of shoe under one mark. The court side is flat and unpadded: a low leather or canvas upper, a thin rubber sole, three stripes or three rows of perforations at the side, and very little else. The running side does the opposite, with a knitted upper stretched over a thick cushioned midsole and built for distance rather than for standing still. The three stripes are the only thing the two reliably share.
