Women's Denim Jackets

Weight and wash decide how a denim jacket behaves long before the cut does: lighter cloth layers easily and moves with you; heavier twill holds a shape and softens slowly. Trucker styles lead, with their pointed yokes, chest flap pockets and adjustable waist tabs; oversized and boyfriend versions take the same lines wider and longer. Cropped and fitted cuts stop at the waist, while longline and shirt-jacket shapes run past the hip and layer as a light coat.

Raw, rigid indigo starts stiff and marks with wear; stonewashed, acid and bleached finishes arrive already broken in. Black and ecru run flatter than blue and change less over time. Distressing, patchwork, contrast stitching and shearling or borg-lined collars add texture, and a little elastane in the yarn gives a fitted jacket some give across the back.

What does denim weight in ounces mean?

Denim weight is the weight of one square yard of the fabric in ounces, so it describes the density of the cloth rather than the weight of the finished garment. Under about 12 oz is lightweight and drapes easily, which suits layering. From 12 to 16 oz is midweight, holds a structured shape and is where most jackets sit. Above 16 oz is heavyweight: stiff at first and slow to soften, but it develops the sharpest fade lines.

How do you wash a denim jacket without fading it?

Wash it as seldom as you can and spot-clean in between. When you do wash it, turn it inside out, fasten the buttons and run it on a short, gentle cycle in cold water, alone or with similar colours, using a mild detergent that contains no bleach or optical brighteners. Hang it to dry away from direct sunlight rather than tumble drying, because dryer heat sets creases and sunlight dulls indigo. Raw denim is usually left unwashed for its first few months so the fades have time to develop.

Are DIHSAN's denim jackets authentic?
