The zip sits off centre for a reason: it originally kept the closure clear of a fuel tank as a rider leaned forward, and it is still what separates this jacket from every other short leather cut. The details around it come from the same era — a wide notched or snap-down lapel, zipped side pockets, a buckled waist belt, and cuff zips that open wide enough to clear a glove. Cropped bodies stop at the waist; longer versions reach the hip and lose some of the attitude.
Hide decides the hand. Lambskin runs about 0.5 to 0.8mm and feels supple from the first wear but marks easily, calfskin sits in the middle at roughly 0.8 to 1.2mm, and cowhide at 1.0 to 1.4mm is heavier and far harder to scuff. Suede, nubuck and patent finishes change the surface again, while quilted panels, studs, zip trims and shearling collars decide how loud the jacket reads.
