Look at the hem and the side seam. A long, deeply curved tail that drops several inches lower at the front and back is cut to be tucked, and it will not hang flat if you leave it out. A straight, even hem with short side vents is made to hang loose. As a rule of thumb, an untucked shirt should finish around the middle of the fly and no lower than the bottom of it, covering the seat without dropping far past it.

Oxford is a basketweave — a pair of fine yarns crossing a single heavier one — which gives a textured, slightly weightier cloth that wears hard and softens with each wash, so it reads casual. Poplin is a plain one-over-one weave: smooth, light and crisp, with a faint sheen and a tendency to crease. Twill steps each row of interlacing sideways to build a diagonal rib, so it drapes more heavily, resists wrinkling and takes colour with more depth. Flannel is any of these, brushed.
