Velvet

The men's tee is a problem of grams and drape, not of design. Velvet answers it by changing the cloth rather than the shape: slub cotton for a textured, broken-in surface; whisper-weight jersey for something that hangs close without clinging; heavier jersey where a crew neck has to hold its own shape through a long day. The silhouettes stay deliberately plain.

From there the range extends the same way. Long-sleeve henleys give the tee a placket and a collar; French terry hoodies and joggers move the softness into a heavier weight; modal fleece crews and pullovers handle the cold end without stiffening up. Colours stay muted — heather greys, stone, midnight, washed earth tones — and the fit runs relaxed rather than oversized. These are the layers underneath everything else.

What is the difference between a crew and a henley?

A crew neck is a closed round neckline with no opening. A henley adds a short buttoned placket, usually two to four buttons, and often a slightly heavier or ribbed collar. The placket lets the neckline sit open or closed, which makes a henley read as more of a shirt substitute and a crew as more of a base layer. Henleys commonly come with long sleeves, crews with either.

How does French terry differ from brushed fleece?

French terry is knitted with loops on the inside face and a smooth outside, so it stays soft without the fuzzy pile of brushed fleece. That makes it lighter, more breathable and better suited to year-round wear, where brushed fleece is warmer and bulkier. French terry also holds its shape and drapes more cleanly, which is why it is used for hoodies and joggers meant to be worn out rather than only at home.
