The belt is where a SOIA & KYO coat makes its case. Wrap it and a straight wool column becomes a waist; leave it open and the same coat falls into a loose, easy line. The Montreal label designs its womenswear around that kind of adjustability, so one piece covers several moods without needing a second coat to do it.

Around that idea sits a full cold-weather wardrobe. Wool blends appear as maxi lengths, double-breasted silhouettes and moto-cut shells with mixed-media panels; down-filled parkas and puffers take over when the temperature drops, hooded and cuffed against wind. Leather turns up as trims, sleeves and standalone jackets. Hats, scarves and gloves are made to the same brief — plain, soft, easy to add without rethinking the whole outfit. Colour stays disciplined, mostly black, camel, ivory and deep neutrals.

What does the belt on a SOIA & KYO coat change about the fit?

More than it looks like it will. Cinched, a belt pulls a wool coat in at the natural waist and creates a defined silhouette that reads closer to tailoring. Left loose or tied at the back, the same coat drapes straight and gives you room to layer a knit or a blazer underneath. Because most belts are self-fabric and removable, you can also take one off entirely for a cleaner column.

How is leather used in SOIA & KYO women's pieces?

In two ways. Some jackets are leather throughout, cut close in moto and biker shapes with the hardware kept minimal. More often leather arrives as a contrast element on a wool or down piece — sleeves, a yoke, pocket welts, a collar facing, a belt — which is what the label describes as mixed media. Treat any leather panel as leather when cleaning: professional care only, never a home wash.
