Men's Utility Pants

Pockets set the terms on a utility pant. Bellows cargo pockets on the thigh expand as they fill; flat patch and zip pockets trade that capacity for a cleaner line, and hip, back and side-seam pockets fill in around them. The more a pocket is asked to carry, the more the cloth around it has to take, which is why the fabric here runs heavier than a standard chino.

Cotton ripstop, canvas, heavy twill and technical nylon dominate, often with a water-repellent finish. Legs run straight, tapered, wide and cropped, with adjustable ankle tabs, drawcords and elasticated cuffs pulling the hem in. Reinforced knees, bar-tacked stress points, D-rings, webbing belts and snap-flap closures are structural as much as decorative. The palette stays with olive, black, sand and washed neutrals.

What is the difference between cargo pants and utility pants?

Cargo is one type of utility pant, defined by the large bellows pockets on the outside of the thigh, which expand as they fill. Utility is the broader category: anything built around function, which takes in flat patch and zip pockets, reinforced knees, tool loops and adjustable ankle tabs, on a fabric heavier than a standard chino. So every cargo pant is a utility pant, but plenty of utility pants have no thigh pockets at all.

What is ripstop fabric?

Ripstop is a weave, not a fibre. Thicker reinforcing yarns are woven into the cloth at regular intervals, usually every quarter inch or so, producing the faint grid you can see on the surface. If the fabric is punctured, the tear stops when it reaches one of those yarns instead of running on. It is most often cotton, nylon or a blend, and it delivers unusual tear resistance for its weight, which is why it suits loaded pockets.

Are DIHSAN's utility pants authentic?

Will I be charged duties on a DIHSAN utility pant order?

No. Duties are included on every DIHSAN order, and US orders include taxes as well.
