Men's Dress Pants

A dress pant is judged on how it hangs when you are standing still. Wool suiting in tropical, mid-weight worsted and flannel cloths carries the drape, and a lined or half-lined front, a proper curtain waistband and a clean crease down the leg hold it there. Flat fronts read leanest, single and double pleats return room through the thigh, and the rise sits higher than it does on casual trousers, at or just below the natural waist.

Legs are cut slim, tapered or straight, with hems finished plain or turned up as cuffs that add weight and help the fabric fall. Side adjusters take the place of belt loops on the more formal cuts, while extension tabs and hook-and-bar closures fasten the waistband in place of a plain button. Mohair blends add sheen, and wool-silk, cotton blends and technical suiting weaves handle warmer rooms and longer days.
