Men's Tapered Pants
A taper gives room where the body needs it and takes it back where it does not. The seat and thigh stay generous, then the leg narrows steadily from the knee down to the ankle, so the line reads sharp at the hem without gripping the upper leg. A slim fit works the other way, holding one close cut from waist to hem.
How far that narrowing goes varies. A gentle taper closes only slightly, while carrot and drop-crotch cuts exaggerate the contrast between a full top and a narrow leg. Rises usually sit mid to high, and hems finish plain, cuffed or cropped to sit above the shoe, showing the narrowest point of the leg. Wool suiting and firmer cotton twills such as chino hold that line cleanly, while denim, technical nylon and knits with a small percentage of elastane keep it comfortable through the seat and thigh.
