Men's Casual Pants

Casual pants earn the name in the construction rather than the cut: softer waistbands, less internal structure and a fabric that creases as you move instead of holding a press. Cotton leads, in chino twill and heavier canvas, with corduroy for the cold months and linen or linen blends for the heat. Drawstring and elasticated-waist trousers sit at the easiest end of the range.

Legs run straight, tapered, slim or relaxed, over rises that range from low to the natural waist. Flat fronts dominate, though a single pleat returns volume through the thigh. Slash or on-seam pockets sit at the front, welt pockets at the back, often with a button. Garment-dyed and washed finishes, softer cottons and a little elastane mark the difference between a pair you press and a pair you do not.
