Tricot is a warp-knitted fabric, usually polyester or nylon, made with vertical loops on the face and horizontal ones on the reverse. It comes out smooth and slightly lustrous on the outside and soft against the skin, with a little stretch across the width and almost none along the length. It resists running and holds its shape better than a jersey knit, which is why it became the standard cloth for track jackets and warm-up trousers.

Traditionally close through the body, with the hem at the waistband and the shoulder seam sitting on your shoulder, because it was cut to go over kit without adding bulk. Looser cuts drop that seam down the upper arm and add room through the chest, which suits heavier fabrics like velour and terry. Either way, check the cuff and hem ribbing before anything else, because once the elastic has gone slack the jacket will not hold its shape.
