Measure a ring you already wear on the same finger rather than the finger itself, since a printable sizer chart or a jeweller's mandrel converts its inside diameter to a size in seconds. Fingers swell through the day and in heat, so take the reading in the evening and repeat it. Wide bands press against more of the finger and wear tighter than a slim one, so go up a half size on anything much above 8 mm wide. Stacking rings should be true to size, and midi rings are ordered two to three sizes down.

A full eternity band sets stones continuously around the whole circumference, so it looks the same from every angle. A half eternity carries stones across the top and leaves the underside plain metal. That plain shank is what lets a jeweller resize a half eternity; a full eternity generally cannot be altered, because cutting the band interrupts the setting. Half eternity also sits more comfortably against neighbouring fingers and catches less on knitwear, which is why it is the more common choice for daily wear.
