On knitwear, separate the yarn with the pin instead of piercing it, and back the point with a small piece of felt or a locking clutch to spread the weight. Heavy pieces drag on silk and chiffon, so wear those on a scarf, belt or bag strap, or choose a magnetic fastening instead.
