Men's Wide Leg Pants
A wide leg only works if the fabric falls. Volume without drape reads as bulk, which is why the cut leans on cloth fluid enough to hang in a straight column from the hip: wool suiting, viscose blends, lyocell, softened linen and washed twill. Stiffer fabrics hold the shape too, but they stand away from the leg rather than moving with it.
Widths run from a gently relaxed straight-through leg to a full, columnar cut, with openings commonly 18 inches around and upward. Rises sit mid to high: a higher waist lengthens the leg and keeps the volume in proportion. Pleats at the front release extra room through the thigh, and hems finish plain or cuffed, cut long enough to just touch the top of the shoe.
