Wrap a tape measure or a strip of paper around the wrist bone where the bracelet will sit, mark it, then measure it flat. Most men land between 17 and 19 cm. Add 1.5 to 2 cm for a chain or link bracelet, so an 18 cm wrist takes about 19.5 to 20 cm. Add only 0.5 to 1 cm for a cuff, and measure the inner circumference. Rigid bangles have to clear a closed fist, which usually means 21 to 24 cm.

Stainless steel does not tarnish in normal wear, because the chromium in the alloy holds a passive layer that reforms after a scratch. Sterling silver does darken: the silver reacts with sulphur compounds in the air and on skin, and the copper in the alloy speeds that along, but a polishing cloth lifts it in a minute. Plated pieces do not tarnish while the plating holds, though the layer is finite and wears through first at the clasp and the edges. Keep all three away from chlorine and perfume.
