Best not. Jute is a natural fibre that swells when it soaks, then dries stiff and out of shape, and a warped sole can pull at the stitching that joins it to the upper. Light rain on a rubber-bottomed pair is survivable; puddles, beaches and washing machines are not. If a pair does get soaked, blot it, stuff it with paper to hold the shape, and let it air dry away from direct heat — allow a couple of days for that.

The upper gives — canvas and leather relax across the widest part of the foot within a few wears — but the braided jute sole does not stretch at all, so the length you buy is the length you keep. Take your true size if the fit is clean, and size up rather than down if you are between sizes or the shoe feels short. A pair worn too tight puts tension on the stitching that joins the upper to the sole and can work it loose.
