Men's Flat Sandals
How much of the foot the straps capture is what separates one flat sandal from the next. A single wide band across the vamp leaves the heel free and the foot mostly open. Multi-strap and crossover designs add a second or third band over the instep and toes for a closer hold, while fisherman styles cage the foot in woven leather and close at the ankle.
Buckled and hook-and-loop ankle straps take the sandal into walking territory; gladiator and caged versions extend that idea further up the leg. Toe-post sandals do without a fastening altogether, held by a strap anchored between the first two toes. Footbeds are moulded cork, contoured leather or flat rubber, and uppers range from smooth and grained calf leather to suede, canvas webbing and technical nylon straps.
