Weight is the first thing you notice, or rather the lack of it. An ADD jacket weighs almost nothing in the hand, and it stays that way once it is on, because the warmth comes from the loft of the down rather than from the heft of the cloth. That is what makes these wearable indoors as well as out, and what stops them swallowing a smaller frame.

Proportion does the rest. The rounded, cocooning shapes are cut narrow at the shoulder so the volume begins below it, which is why they sit over a knit or a dress without adding width where it shows; the straighter hooded pieces hold a vertical line instead. Concealed fastenings and a small tonal patch at the sleeve keep the surface uninterrupted, and the shell resists rain and creasing, so the jacket looks the same at the end of the day as it did at the start.
