MEN'S AND WOMEN'S
Valentino
Rome is the source. Valentino builds from the city it has always worked in, and the reference is literal: the pyramid studs that made the house's accessories recognisable are drawn from bugnato, the diamond-cut rustication that gives Roman palazzo façades their pointed texture. A building detail became a fashion one, and it has not needed changing since.
Around it sits a second code, colour. Rosso Valentino — the house's own red — functions as a logo it wears rather than prints, turning up on a gown, on a shoe, on the lining of a bag. The rest reads as Italian formality relaxed: fluid ready-to-wear cut long and clean, sharp tailoring, footwear from studded flats and heels through to sneakers, and leather goods marked by the VLogo Signature, a V held inside a rounded frame. Black, ivory and that red carry most of it.
