Issey Miyake>Pleats Please

The pleat here is the last step, not the first. Cloth is cut and sewn to a finished but oversized shape, then pressed under heat until the folds are permanently set — the reverse of the usual order, and the reason the pleating runs with the seams instead of fighting them. What comes out is light, springy and dimensional, and it holds its ridges through wear and washing rather than relaxing out of them.

Everything else follows from that decision. Pieces rarely need zips or fastenings, because the pleats supply the give; they travel crushed into a bag and come out unchanged; they move with the body instead of hanging off it. Colour runs from flat black to the saturated brights the fabric takes so well, and the shapes stay plain — a straight tunic, a wide trouser, a skirt that opens like a fan — since the surface is already doing the work.

Frequently asked questions

All FAQ's

Issey Miyake>Pleats Please

Do the pleats fall out over time?

They are not meant to. The folds are set into the finished garment under heat, which fixes them in the fibre rather than pressing them in temporarily, so they survive wear and repeated washing. What does damage them is high heat — a hot wash, a tumble dryer or an iron — along with heavy chemical bleaching. Treated gently, a piece keeps the same crispness it had when new for years. Follow the care label on the individual garment.

What does product pleating mean?

It describes the order of operations. Conventionally, fabric is pleated first and then cut and sewn; here the garment is cut and sewn to its finished shape while still oversized, and only then fed through a heat press that sets the folds. Because the pleating happens to the whole garment at once, the folds follow the seams, the hems and the curve of a sleeve rather than running blindly across them.

Are DIHSAN's Pleats Please pieces authentic?

Yes. Every piece DIHSAN sells is the brand's own — genuine designer product, with the maker's hardware, stamping and markings intact. Nothing is a reproduction or a licensed imitation.

Will I be charged duties on a DIHSAN Pleats Please piece order?

No. Duties are included on every DIHSAN order, and US orders include taxes as well.

Can I return a Pleats Please piece purchase at DIHSAN?

Yes. Eligible Pleats Please pieces can go back within 14 days of the ship date, for store credit rather than cash, and shipping charges are non-refundable. Items discounted 70% or more — plus swimwear, intimates, and limited-release styles at any discount — are final sale.
