MEN'S AND WOMEN'S
Givenchy
A clean line held under tension is the Givenchy signature, and it has been since Hubert de Givenchy opened the house in Paris in 1952. The cut is architectural rather than decorative — a shoulder set square, a sleeve narrowed to the wrist, a trouser falling without interruption — and ornament is rationed down to hardware and a single emblem.
That emblem is the 4G, the house monogram built from four G's, and it does most of the branding work: embossed on hardware, cast into a buckle, worked into a jacquard knit, printed across denim. The other founding idea was the separate — the debut collection in 1952 was built from blouses, skirts and trousers meant to be recombined rather than worn as a set, and the house has treated the individual garment as a finished object ever since. Tailoring, knitwear, denim, footwear and accessories all follow from that, drawn to a silhouette that stays legible across a room.
