Women's outerwear follows the same technical brief as the rest of the house, but the cut does more shaping: a waist that can be drawn in or left to hang straight, a shoulder kept narrow, a hem that adds length without adding width. Nobis treats a winter coat as something to be worn all season rather than reserved for the worst days of it.

Underneath the silhouette the engineering is unchanged, with down insulation, a shell built to block wind and shed water, sealed seams and an insulated hood that holds its shape in weather. Finishes range from matte technical nylon to a denser, quieter face cloth, which changes how close a coat drapes over what is under it. Between a long parka, a mid-length coat and a cropped down jacket, the choice comes down to what the coat has to cover.

Will a down coat look bulky?

Bulk comes from baffle depth and fill weight rather than from down itself. A coat with narrow, closely spaced channels holds its insulation in a thinner layer and keeps a defined outline, while wide box baffles trap more air and read fuller. Shell fabric matters too, since a matte, denser face cloth drapes closer than a glossy technical nylon. If a slim line is the priority, look for narrow quilting through the body and a shaped side seam.

How should the sleeves and hem sit on a winter coat?

A sleeve should cover the wrist bone with the arm relaxed and still clear the hand when the arm is raised, since a coat worn over knitwear will ride up in use. The hem is a coverage decision rather than a fit one, but the side seam should hang straight without flaring when the coat is closed. If it pulls into diagonal lines across the chest once fastened over a jumper, size up rather than wearing it open.
