Which parts of a blazer can a tailor alter?

Sleeve length, side seams and hem are routine alterations, and a waist can usually be taken in by a couple of centimetres without distorting the pockets. The shoulder is the exception: reshaping it means rebuilding the sleeve head, which is costly and rarely worth doing. Buy for the shoulder and the chest, then adjust the rest. Garment measurements appear on the product page where the maker provided them.

How do I judge trouser length before hemming?

Decide the shoe first, because a heel and a flat ask for lengths that differ by two or three centimetres on a straight leg. Wide legs are usually worn longer, grazing the top of the shoe, while a tapered leg looks cleaner ending at the ankle bone. Compare the inseam figure on the product page with a pair you already wear, rather than relying on the size name alone.
