A belt does most of the work here. On this label's coats the waist is the fitting point, not the chest alone: the body sits close above it and widens below, so the coat holds a shape of its own instead of hanging from the shoulders. Shearling is used at the edges only — collar and cuffs — which keeps the trim substantial and the body light.

The Copenhagen house behind them made its name on coats before anything else, and the habits from that period still show. Skins run from matte and grained through to lacquered and light-catching. Colour is used at full strength rather than saved for a lining or a trim. Style names repeat from one season to the next, so a cut that worked once can be found again in a different leather. Around the coats sit leather trousers and lighter jackets for milder weather.

What does patent or high-shine lambskin do differently from matte leather?

The finish sits on the surface as a lacquer, so the skin reflects light and reads harder and more graphic than a matte or grained leather in the same colour. It also shows creases more plainly, particularly at the elbow and across the waist where a belt sits. Cleaning is easier, since a damp cloth handles most marks, but the coating cannot be fed with conditioner the way an untreated leather can.

Why do belted coats measure differently from straight ones?

A straight coat is judged at the chest and hangs from the shoulder. A belted coat adds a second fitting point at the waist, and because the skirt flares from there, the hem measurement stops being useful for judging size. Take the shoulder and chest figures as the deciding numbers and treat the waist as adjustable within the belt's range. Leather in particular will not ease, so a tight chest stays tight.
