The Chuck 70 is the more durable of the two. Its canvas is noticeably heavier, the rubber foxing is taller and the insole carries more cushioning, all of which slows the usual failure points — the sidewall creasing away from the upper, and the footbed flattening out. The All Star trades that for less weight and a faster break-in. Neither has much arch support, so an aftermarket insole is a common addition.

It is finished that way on purpose. Where the standard All Star uses a flat bright white foxing, the Chuck 70 runs a deliberately off-white rubber with a slight gloss to it. That is a colour choice rather than oxidation, so it will not bleach back to bright white — cleaning lifts dirt off the surface but leaves the tone exactly where it started. The stripes and toe cap are finished to match.
