How do I clean a down jacket without ruining the fill?

Check the label, then wash sparingly: a front-loading machine, a gentle cycle, cool water, and a detergent made for down rather than an ordinary one, which strips the natural oils. Never use fabric softener. Rinse twice so no residue is left in the baffles, then tumble dry on low for a long time with a few dryer balls, pausing to break up clumps by hand until the loft comes back fully.
